Genetic Counseling

Genetic counseling has become increasingly important in the overall care of cancer patients, as well as its implications for tailoring treatment for patients and their families. At Elite Hemat Oncocare Centre, we have dedicated and highly trained genetic counsellors who ask our patients about their family background and explain the value of genetic testing during their sessions. Such tests can help identify unique mutations in cancer patients, allowing cancer treatment doctors to prescribe customized drugs that produce the best results with the fewest side effects. There are genetic tests available these days that evaluate a panel of particular genes for anomalies and recommend medication/medications that can specifically operate on them, as well as which ones can have no benefit at all.

Our genetic counselors educate patients about genetic mutations that can be passed on from generation to generation, putting the next generation at risk of developing cancer. They advise screening and diagnosis for relatives who are at high risk. While the risk of cancers running in families is very low, it should not be overlooked, particularly because we can take preventative measures for relatives who have a high risk of familial cancers. Breast, ovary, colon, and uterine cancers are also examples of hereditary cancers.
